The club was conceived by Fiona Knight who realised that there was very little in the
way of junior or senior netball in the Exeter area. Originally a junior club, coached by
Fiona’s daughter Holly, it all started with small beginnings as an U-12 team based at the
University of Exeter.

The club grew rapidly in the first few years providing junior netball for girls from 12 –
16 In 2006 the junior club merged with a developing senior team. At this stage the club
was running 2 U-14 sides, 2 U-16 teams and one senior side,

Progress from this point has been rapid with the formation of an U-19 side in 2008,
which reached the finals of U-19 National Clubs in 2008.The 2009/10 season was the
clubs most successful to date; an U-12 team was developed for the first time and entered
into the local Exeter League, the U-14 1st team reached the finals of the National Clubs
competition and the senior 2nd teams was promoted to South West Regional League
division 2,

The club is based at the University of Exeter and has developed an increasingly close
partnership with the University’s sport programme. With support from the University
the club has access to the best facilities in the city. All students that are part of the
University’s Netball High Performance Programme play for the club at regional level.

With the support of the University, Exeter Netball Club will continue to progress from
season to season offering netball opportunities to juniors and seniors across the city and
the County.
